Standards-based learning: creating tools to support the work
Online Effects is partnering with school districts to develop custom tools that meet local needs. Districts participating in this effort share a vision of the importance of standards in guiding the day-to-day work in our schools. This data management system is designed to deliver flexibility, ease of use, and output of educational significance.
As partners, Online Effects offers expertise in assessment tracking, issues contributing to assessment policy, and technical data management implementation. Districts as partners bring expertise and rich experience to this process. Partner districts specify needs around workflow, interoperability with extant systems, standards for reporting and more. Partner districts also share in professional development requirements such as training, support and documentation.
For more information about becoming a partner district, please contact Frank Callanan at Online Effects.
The LAS database is in the early stages of testing. Development continues. The system consists of several modules that enable schools to manage assessment data over a student's career. Modular applications permit a district to:
- track the standards-based scores of students
- derive all registration information from the school's commercial/extant SIS
- define and record assessment instruments based on the Maine Learning Results
- create maps of assessments and scoring guides for grade spans and subject areas
- access online help and documentation
These modules are in active development using concepts specified by school teachers and administrators. For a sneak preview of the work, link to these concept screen shots captured from the developer's version of the application.
